Amazing tours of Bolton you will be ‘appy to explore!'

Bolton Ye Olde Man

Discover Bolton's true heritage with the new FREE to download TrailTale app, available on IOS and Android.

Bolton Council have teamed up with TrailTale to create a brilliant app which lets you discover amazing hidden histories across the Borough.

The app is available for both Apple and Android phones, you can discover and explore 9 fantastic walking trails in and around Bolton, plus a guided cycle route for those who prefer a two wheeled tour!

The walks were commissioned by Bolton Council and funded by the European Regional Development Fund which aims to get people back to the high street.

The digital heritage trails give information on the length of the walk and approximate duration, depending on how quickly you walk!

It also has handy advice on where to park.

The app displays amazing historic photographs of Bolton from a bygone age, as well as some of Bolton’s finest landmarks.

All the trails are audio described so you can walk the route as you listen to the history of Bolton and surrounding areas.

Each trail has a different theme, some concentrate on the town centre with stops at Fred Dibnah’s statue, St Peters Church and Bolton Grammar School.

You can also watch all of the routes via YouTube if you can’t get out and about.

Bolton Council were keen to ensure that routes were accessible to visitors with disabilities.

Roads and paths were identified which are easy to use for people who have assisted mobility needs.

The routes are designed to encourage residents to go out and be active whilst getting an insight into the town’s rich history, exploring in a fun and interactive way.

Bolton Council Deputy Leader Cllr Hilary Fairclough said:

“Bolton Council and TrailTale have created a really exciting and historically rich app. The trails are designed for different users wanting a leisurely stroll, or an invigorating hike, while also providing both child-friendly and bicycle-friendly routes.

Rafi Ilivitzky, managing director at TrailTale said:
