IRONMAN returns to Bolton for another bumper weekend in 2024

IRONMAN 70.3 weekend arrives in June with three days of sporting activities and action, and there’s something for everyone.

Don’t miss out on Bolton town centre’s biggest weekend of sport this summer.

Kicking off the weekend on Friday, June 28, is Night Run Bolton UK.

Hundreds of people will head to the town centre to take on challenges ranging from jogging the 5k route to setting a personal best on the 10k route.

Then on Saturday, June 29, the world’s biggest IRONKIDS returns to Bolton. New for this year, the number of places on offer has risen to an all-time high of 6,000.

Be sure your children do not miss out, as despite the record number of places, three-quarters have already been snapped up.

There will be plenty to keep children and the whole family entertained before and after the event, with food stalls, face painting and a climbing wall among the highlights.

IRONMAN 70.3 comes to town on Sunday, June 30, featuring thousands of athletes competing along a 70.3-mile course.

This year’s shorter distance and faster, flatter route make it an option for more people than ever before.

Road closures

This year, for the first time, both the run and bike legs of IRONMAN 70.3 on Sunday, June 30, will take place mainly within Bolton.

For safety reasons, this means roads in the area will be closed for part of the day and unfortunately some disruption is inevitable. However, road closures will generally be shorter than in previous years.

The bike route will require temporary road closures in the area of Pennington Flash, into Bolton along Atherleigh Way, North Road and Chew Moor Road, and along Chorley New Road between the town centre and Horwich.

The run route is similar to previous years.

All road closures will be advertised well in advance through signage, announcements in the local press, on social media and on the council website.
