The Queen's Platinum Jubilee

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee

Join in with all the celebrations Bolton has planned to commemorate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee during the extended Bank Holiday weekend this June!

A celebration for everyone

The extended bank holiday weekend of 2nd – 5th June 2022 marks the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, where Her Majesty will become the first British monarch to celebrate 70 years of service.

In Bolton we want everyone to get involved in celebrating this historic event and are planning some special events over the bank holiday weekend. Don’t forget to follow our social media channels for the latest updates on our exciting plans.

How to celebrate in Bolton

We also want to help residents and groups commemorate the occasion in their own community and there are lots of ways you, your family and friends can celebrate together.

Hold a Street Party

Why not come together with your neighbours and communities to organise a street party to mark the historic event

The Council's Events team has produced some guidance on managing safe events and an application form for event organisers is available to complete to request a road closure. There is also some helpful guidance on the government’s website.

We’re delighted that we are able to waive road closure fees for those who wish to hold a street party over the bank holiday weekend.

Anyone wishing to take advantage of this offer will need to apply for a road closure as soon as possible, the deadline is Friday 29th April.

All events must comply with the public health guidance in place at the time.
For further information, download the information and application pack.

Hold a Big Jubilee Lunch

On 5th June, communities are invited to come together for The Big Jubilee Lunch (Street Party).

Safe events of all shapes and sizes are encouraged in a way that works best for your community. Some ideas include getting together with neighbours to watch the Platinum Pageant on television, having a cuppa or organising a Big Lunch gathering.

Don’t forget if your lunch takes place on your local street, road or cul-de-sac, then please complete the road closure application form.

Always carefully consider how you can minimise risks at your street party too, make sure everyone enjoys the event and stays safe by taking personal responsibility for themselves and their children / dependents. We would advise you also consider taking out relevant public liability insurance.

Plant a tree for the Jubilee

The Queen's Green Canopy

The Queen's Green Canopy (QGC) is a unique, UK-wide, tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee in 2022, by inviting people to "Plant a Tree for the Jubilee." Everyone from individuals to towns, villages, schools and companies are being invited to plant trees from October 2021 when the tree planting season begins, through to the end of the Jubilee year in 2022.

Many initiatives to plant trees in Bolton have already taken place.

The Queen's Green Canopy organisation is encouraging the planting of trees in a sustainable way and to create a legacy in honour of The Queen's reign and leadership, as well as inviting the planting of new trees, the QGC will dedicate a network of 70 Ancient Woodlands across the United Kingdom and identify 70 Ancient Trees to celebrate Her Majesty's 70 years of service.

All planting projects can be uploaded onto an interactive map on the QGC website so that everyone can share and inspire others, as well as creating a green canopy of projects to cover the country. The map is embedded within the QGC website.

Once you have planted your tree, you can mark the occasion with a virtual commemorative plaque.

Free trees

The Woodland Trust is giving away hundreds of thousands of trees to schools and communities. Applications for a November delivery will open in Spring 2022. Find out how to apply for your trees.
