During 2012 Bolton is set for an exciting year-long programme of sporting events and activities to coincide with a massive year of UK sport.
Bolton is host to the Olympic Torch as it makes its way around the UK on Thursday 31 May and Friday 1 June culminating in an amazing evening celebration in Queen's Park.
The annual Horwich Festival of Racing takes place between 14 and 17 June 2012 and features British standard cycling, running and road walking championships, a young persons swim / run plus street orienteering.
The Ironman UK Triathlon returns to Bolton in July, with competitors taking part in the UK based qualifier for the World Ironman Championships. Many hotels and guesthouses have provided Ironman accommodation packages for the event - click here for details.
New for 2012 is Ironkids, where children aged 3 to 15 years can now enter their very own 'run only' race in the town centre on Saturday 21 July. It's all about fun and healthy living and each child will receive a race t-shirt and an Ironkids medal.
